1. Five Girls
오소녀 (Five Girls) was meant to debut in the mid 00s under Good Entertainment. They were a dream team of soloist G.NA, After School's UEE, Wonder Girls' Yubin, SPICA's Jiwon and SECRET's Hyosung. I do not have enough sources to confirm exactly how they were formed, but I know that Hyosung and G.NA were participants of competition TV show "Battle Shinwa." From there, they were offered to train with the company.
What is remarkable about Five Dolls is that each member went on to make their marks as individual idols within their respective groups: although now shrouded with scandal, G.NA debuted under Cube Ent. and was a soloist who was well respected for her stable vocals; UEE became After School's top visual and most popular member before Nana stole the crown; SECRET was considered a solid mid-tier group for many years, and Hyosung was the fan-favorite member, earning herself a solo debut as well.; SPICA may have struggled, but Jiwon was the public friendly member of the group, becoming a hot topic for performance in The Unit; and, the Wonder Girls, needless to say, are the Wonder Girls.
Guess they were all tops. |
They seem to like each other more than their members to be honest. |

2. JYP's Lost Vocal Gems
Hyorin is known for her raspy, emotional tone and Jieun is complemented for her vocal control. Even just a mixing of these two opposites would have been a wonder to behold. The best part is, being a JYP group, they would have had a large amount of support from debut, especially compared to other vocal-based idol groups. Even Mamamoo had to work up to a level of recognition that groups like Miss A and ITZY got immediately.
However, if they had debuted as one, would we have gotten SISTAR, SECRET, EXID and BESTie? Would would never have beheld the saccharine summer beauty of "I Swear," the brass-boosted big-band of "I'm in Love," the melancholy artistry of "Every Night" or the pulsating bubblegum of "Pitapat"? Every day is a choice, and I choose to be thankful.
Amazing! Where Kpop Group BESTie meets Socialist and Feminist Theory
3. Mix Nine
Mix Nine was a competition show that rode off the curtails of Produce 101. The main catch being that is was run by YG Entertainment. And that, my friends, has made all the difference.
Mix Nine was a complete failure compared to Produce 101 for many reasons: harsh judges, mistreatment of fans, plunging ratings and a controversial structure. The members of Dreamcatcher even left halfway though, citing scheduling conflicts but, I mean, they weren't not staying for the fair treatment. The final boys vs. girls competition lead to the top 9 girls not even being up for debut. Probably for the best, since the boys' debut was cancelled anyway.

On the November 5 episode of “MIXNINE,” Yang Hyun Suk visited Mole Entertainment for auditions. After looking at Sori’s file, Yang Hyun Suk said, “You’re a bit older. Twenty-eight. To be an idol, your age is… isn’t it retirement age?”Video translation.
Still, consider the awesome girls that won the top 9, including LOONA's Heejin, soloist Eyedi, COCOSORI's Sori, and members of Playback and Bonus Baby that I do not know very well, but am sure are very cool.
Eyedi being a personal favorite of mine.
However, there is one reason we would have liked a debut: we all have feelings about YG, especially lately, but one cannot deny the quality of music that comes from them. I would have really enjoyed a Teddy-backed idol group that focused more blatantly on pop that hip-hop-pop. Even the original songs used for the show are of a high caliber than anything from Produce.
