Who is Joo E?

And, furthermore, how dare she?

In the past couple of months, "JooE" has become a buzzword. But Who is She? Let us tell you so you can look cool in front of your friends.

To understand JooE is to understand MOMOLAND. Momo, on the other hand, you will have to understand on your own time.

In 2016, Duble Kick Ent. decided they wanted to debut a new girl group. They already knew that they wanted to call the group MOMOLAND, apparently just for the pun "Finding Momoland." They probably also knew the members, but we sat through a show to find out anyway.

The Duble Kick duo is responsible for many classic girl group songs such as (but not limited to): SECRET's "I'm in Love," SISTAR's "I Swear," Girl's Day's "Something" and CLC's "Pepe." I repeat, CLC's "Pepe." But, my personal favorite is the one that started my obsession:

Producer's groups do not always go well. After being touted as "E-TRIBE's babies," Dal Shabet stopped receiving E-TRIBE's songs after a few years. Similarly, Brave Girls was put on hiatus for 2.5 years while Brave Brothers focused on AOA.

But, with Duble's reputation, we still had high hopes. However, not completely unsurprisingly, the show created minimal buzz, no where near its predecessor Produce 101. Their first three releases were solid, but failed to chart well.

That is, until international sensation JooE was given the spotlight.

From the onset, JooE stood out with a unique concept. She was obviously a variety idol. If I had to, I would compare her to debut-era Girl's Day Minah, who also shook the world with her ability to be cute and crazy.

JooE has a good enough voice, but we know her real talent lies in entertaining. Watch her solo Finding Momoland performance below to get a feel for her image. Then watch Nancy audition for Julliard.

There has always been curiosity and controversy surrounding JooE's looks. JooE is open about her plastic surgery, and after MOMOLAND's debut, she was in the news for excessive "selca fraud." Keep in mind these are low-quality, pre-debut pictures, so it is not easy to tell what is going on anyway.

"Fraud" being the worst term because it is actually not against the law to take nice pictures, and anyway, pretty is not mandatory

By this time, MOMOLAND had accumulated a decent amount of fans. Their songs are electronic heavy, which makes sense considering Duble's history. They err on the side of cute and quirky, but still sweet and inoffensive enough to appeal to the public.

Their concepts are more colorful than your typical innocent girl group concept. We can see this in JooE, who gained her signature pink hair and pigtails during "Wonderful Love" promotions. And, it was those flying pigtails that shot her into stardom: in Summer 2017, they performed an EDM Ver. of "Wonderful Love" that went viral.

Her utterly shameless dancing immediately gained a following partly, if not completely, because of a twitter account. It is rare for an ifan to have this much influence over the industry, and we thank this brave soul for sharing the good word with us:

Subsequently, JooE nabbed a Tropicana CF. This went even more viral and spawned many spin-offs. Our star JooE is real fruit, real sparkling!

MOMOLAND capitalized off of JooE's newfound popularity with their comeback "Bboom Bboom." Visually, they use a light pop art concept that features all of the girls with their own CFs. A Great! marketing move, and the timing was perfect. JooE will probably buy a building before year end.

"Bboom Bboom" charted extremely well and gave MOMOLAND their first win. This is probably why you know JooE. It also spawned a plagiarism controversy. Learn about more Kpop plagiarism here.

Jooe is a bit different from the rest, she is brave and fun-loving. She has since then spoken about beauty standards.
It would be more tiring for me if I were to hide my complexes instead of overcoming them. Thankfully, I’m a pretty positive person. And honestly, I don’t think there are standards when it comes to beauty. I think we should define our own standards of beauty where we can be satisfied with ourselves.
Back when I first started gaining attention, it was hard whenever people called me a ‘selfie fraud.’ But at the same time, it might’ve given MOMOLAND some public attention, which is good. I’m happy because there are still people who like me.

Since "Bboom Bboom" shot them to great!ness, I sincerely hope they continue this reign and are not one CF wonders. MOMOLAND is a refreshing group, and JooE has so much positive and good energy. Now tell your friends.
